HWH was truly excited to present at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine on Monday, February 7, 2011 from 6-8PM in the Zedeck Auditorium. The presentation featured Dr. Lauri Romanzi, MD, is on the Board of Advisors for HWH. She is an internationally recognized reconstructive pelvic surgeon, who will talk about her work in developing countries repairing fistulas and the broader issue of women’s health in developing countries. Scenes from the documentary Motherland Afghanistan will be shown and John Abdulla will speak about the work of HWH. Ultimately the event encouraged medical students to learn more about the plight of women in developing countries, while also providing tangible opportunities to partner in solidarity with these women. Many thanks to the sponsors of this event: the Surgery Club, Ob/Gyn Club, American Medical Women’s Association, Physicians for Human rights, and the Muslim Medical Association. And we are so thankful for the efforts of PCOM student Vicki Lawn and her team who have worked tirelessly to put this event together – to partner with Afghan women!
